About the Service

CanDo4Kids offers a Recreation Service to children and young people who are Blind/Vision Impaired or Deaf/Hearing impaired, with support to families.

The program is based on meeting individual needs of children and their families, being inclusive of their communication styles and family culture.

Services are designed to be flexible, to challenge individuals, to extend their competencies and to gain as much as possible from their involvement in recreation activities whether they are passive or active.

What does this Service offer to families?

The Recreation Service offers families—

  • Individual recreation planning
  • Recreation support
  • Support for integration into mainstream sports and clubs
  • Liaison with local sports clubs for the purpose of integration
  • Assessment for program participation
  • Home visits
  • Support for parents who are BVI to participate in recreation activities with their children
  • Access to other Community Service activities

Programs include: Cycling, Gym Club - North and South, developing skills, 'Come and Try' style activities

We also provide supported involvement in our specialized recreation and social programs. These include:

  • Gym Club (North & South)
  • School Holiday Program
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Parent Groups
  • Transition Support
  • Access to all other CanDo4Kids - Townsend House Inc. Community Services

CanDo4Kids Family Support Services Recreation works closely within the Family Support Services team to assist in the access to recreation activities through provision of information, challenging activities, counselling for recreation services, and the creation of new programs.
