A Bright Finish for Bright Start

In December 2020, our Bright Start students had their graduation after completing an 18-week program comprised of capacity-building activities designed to increase the primary school readiness of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The program, which was conducted in a safe and nurturing small group environment, provided kids with the opportunity to increase early literacy skills, hearing equipment knowledge and management skills, social skills and self-advocacy to transition from preschool to primary school. The program also provided education and support for their parents to help with the transition.

The graduates were treated to a special performance by none other than former Can:Do 4Kids client and singing sensation, Rachael Leahcar, who performed her song “Can Do” – written especially for Can:Do 4Kids. A special way to celebrate a tremendous milestone for these students.

We would like to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution of the team of Listening and Spoken Language Specialists, Teachers of the Deaf, Family Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Audiologists and Service Managers who delivered the Bright Start program throughout 2020.
