Loud Shirt Day

Did you know that over 12,000 Australian kids face every day with a hearing loss? Early intervention can mean a big difference in terms of outcomes for children and that is why Can:Do 4Kids have announced 4-year-old Nova and 11-month-old Ayla as two of their youngest ambassadors for this year’s Loud Shirt Day.

South Australians are being encouraged to ‘Get Loud’ in a bid to help children like Ayla and Nova live their lives to the fullest and loudest. “I was very nervous when Nova was about to have her surgery. But I met another family at Can:Do who had just been through it and they really reassured me that it was going to be okay,” says Nova’s mum, Abbey.

At only 11-months-old, Ayla is at the very beginning of her journey after being born with a profound hearing loss in her right ear and severe loss in her left ear. “When Ayla was first diagnosed it was very overwhelming and unexpected. I get a bit emotional when other kids are saying ‘Mum’ and ‘Dad’ at her age. But I know now we have the right support,” says Ayla’s mum, Brooke.

If you would like to ‘Get LOUD’ this year, visit to register as a family, at work, with your friends and community group, or at school.

Your support will help give deaf and hard of hearing children access to support and the gift of speech.
