School Holiday Success Creates Social Buddies for Life
Our school holiday groups are a great way for children and youth to meet others in a safe and inclusive environment to help build those important social connections. The recent term three school holiday trial of our Social Buddies group, designed to provide social opportunities and community participation for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, proved to do just that.
The full-day session at our Noarlunga centre provided many age-appropriate activities to those who attended to develop their social, cooperative and communication skills in a fun and engaging environment. Some of these activities included: use of our state-of-the-art interactive Valo Climbing Wall and Movement Zone, a scavenger hunt, shopping at Colonnades for ingredients, cooking (and eating!) a homemade pizza, art and craft, and Digital Gaming.
Can:Do Mum, Teash, shares what the experience was like for her son;
“I just wanted to pass on our feedback for Social Buddies today at Can:Do 4Kids, Noarlunga.
My son has come home saying this was the BEST day ever and that he had a great day doing all the fabulous activities you guys work so hard to put together!
THANK YOU all so much! We really appreciate all the great ideas and work you put into the group activities! He loved making friends, and was very proud to receive a friendship card from his new friend – he’s already begging for a play date.
So, thanks again for providing a great day and providing the opportunities for them to meet kids of similar age and interests.
We look forward to joining in again soon!” – Teash
The summer school holiday groups will be running from Monday 10 January to Friday 21 January.
